Rule of law in Poland: Manneken PiS

On 26 July the European Commission gave Poland one month to address concerns on political interference in the judiciary amid threats of an unprecedented EU voting penalty. The Commission said it could suspend Poland's voting rights within the Council under article 7 of the EU Treaty after the latest measures taken by Jarosław Kaczyński's ruling PiS party, which would de facto put the judiciary system under the executive branch.
