Viktor Yanukovych and Yulia Tymoshenko

With less than two months to go before the Euro 2012 football championship organized by Ukraine and Poland, the EU is putting pressure on Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovych to authorize European ambassadors to visit Yulia Tymoshenko. The former prime minister, sentenced to seven years in prison for abuse of power following a trial denounced by the EU, is ill and has begun a hunger strike.
