The European Commission wants to see 40% of directories, boards of directors and supervisory board, made up of women — by 2018 for public companies, and by 2020 for listed companies.
This measure, initiated and promoted by Viviane Reding, Commissioner for Justice, Fundamental Rights and Citizenship, was presented on 14 November. Her presentation was postponed in October because several commissioners opposed the plan. European Commissioner for the Digital Agenda, Neelie Kroes, argues that that these quotas should be non-binding.
