As European Commission President José Manuel Barroso expressed doubts about the effectiveness of austerity policies, Greece's parliament adopted a new package of reforms negotiated with the trio of international creditors known as the troika: the European Union, the International Monetary Fund and the European Central Bank.

The package includes cuts to 15,000 jobs in the civil service by the year's end, after which the Euro working group would issue a bailout payment of €2.8bn.
