In the early hours of November 7, one hundred riot police entered the headquarters of Greek public broadcaster ERT, in the northern suburbs of Athens, to evict journalists who have occupied the premises since last June, when the government suddenly decided to close down the service. Since then, the journalists, who were active on social networks, continued to present news and debates on the Internet.
"Some ERT colleagues are still broadcasting on the net in the wake of their evacuation, presenting in the street in front of the riot police," reports I Kathimerini.
For its part, the government which is planning to launch a new audiovisual service, NERIT, appears determined to stick to its guns, at a time when the Greek presidency of the EU, which is set to begin on January 1, is just a few weeks away.
