The European Commission filed a formal complaint against Google on 15 April, “alleging the company has abused its dominant position in the markets for general internet search services […] by systematically favouring its own comparison shopping product in its general search results pages”.

Competition Commissioner Margrethe Vestager said Google has 10 weeks to respond. The US firm said it “strongly disagreed” with the allegations. “Vestager also revealed that she had launched an investigation into whether the way Google bundled apps and services for its Android operating system was unfair,” reports the BBC, adding “Google could ultimately face huge fines and be ordered to reshape its business in Europe because of the shopping complaint.”
