The free movement of people is under threat between countries in the Schengen area and the European Union as a whole, after several countries re-established border controls. This comes after a massive influx of migrants and refugees, and the lack of an agreement on how the refugees should be distributed.
Although Germany had said it was ready to receive 800,000 refugees this year, it re-established border controls on 13 September. Austria has also reinforced its controls on the border with Hungary, even after the latter closed its border with Serbia, pushing migrants to try and enter the EU via Croatia (which is not part of the Schengen area).
