Pirate party's electoral booty

In the wake of a breakthrough result for the Pirate Party, which campaigns for the legalization of internet file sharing, Dagens Nyheter leads with the headline “Pirates to Settle EU.” The Swedish daily notes that European elections are increasingly marked by “protest votes.” The 7% and one seat won by the new party will mark a "significant shift in the political landscape,” which has deprived extreme-right movement Sweden Democrats of a portion of their electorate. According to Dagens Nyheter “The Pirates gained support from young people who distrust politicians, the Sweden Democrats movement usually attracting strong youth support.”
