On February 11, Hungary’s universities were hit by several student demonstrations and sit-ins. The students are protesting against a government plan to amend the constitution so that recipients of public university funding will be obliged to stay in Hungary after they graduate or to reimburse the Hungarian state.
On the same day, several thousand people gathered in front of the parliament building in Budapest to demand the reform of the country’s labour law, which obliges the unemployed and inactive to engage in community service under harsh and degrading conditions.
