In the wake of a vote of no confidence that brought down Janez Janša’s government on February 27, the leader of the centre-left Positive Slovenia party, Alenka Bratušek, has been invited to form a new government, which is expected to remain in power until elections slated for the spring of 2014.

Janša, in power since February 10, 2012, was weakened following a political crisis prompted by corruption and criticism of austerity. He has become “the main figure targeted by street protests and the symbol of the political elite that has governed the country for two decades since independence,” explains the newspaper.
