Czech electricity company ČEZ has put the completion of the Temelín project on hold, announces Hospodářské noviny, reporting that the construction of two additional reactors for the nuclear power station, expected to cost 20 billion euros, is to be be delayed for several years. ČEZ cites a drop in consumer demand and the price of electricity as factors. The daily explains that the project was the focus of intense competition between competing nuclear powers, with American, Russian and French companies all submitting tenders. Located just 60 km from the Austrian border, the power station has been a bone of contention between Prague and Vienna, because Austria is unhappy about safety standards at the site.
