According to information gathered by Luxemburger Wort, the Luxembourg government has been aware since 2006 of the possible involvement of a stay-behind network (a secret NATO operation designed to counter an invasion of Warsaw Pact countries with help from far-right groups) in the 1980s “Bommeleeër” bombing campaigns.

The daily reveals that a January 2006 meeting between Prime Minister Jean-Claude Juncker, Minister for Justice Luc Frieden, intelligence chief Marco Mille and two of his associates was recorded without the ministers’ knowledge.

The revelations come as two former gendarmes are standing trial for the attacks, which injured five people and terrorised the country.
