‘Goodbye banking secrecy’

Tax evaders will have no chance in the EU. At the May 22 European Council meeting on tax avoidance and evasion, the 27 member states reached agreement on an agenda for joint action.
The council also called for the adoption of a revised directive on savings tax before the end of the year. However, Luxembourg succeeded in its push to make its support conditional on so-called "third countries" such as Switzerland and Monaco, agreeing to comply with similar legislation.
