Europe is kind to squatters

“Squat ban already teetering,” headlinesDe Volkskrant after the International Court of Justice in The Hague suspended the Dutch government decree authorising police to evacuate squatters without a court order. According to the court, to whichsquatters associations had referred the matter, the decree issued on 1 October "runs contrary to theEuropean Human Rights Convention”, explains the Dutch daily. Several buildings have been evacuated by force since that date, prompting violent clashes in which some squatters were injured.
