At a European conference on the drive to combat youth unemployment held in Berlin on July 3, the European Commission insisted that the Greek government complete negotiations on public sector layoffs with the troika of international creditors before July 8.

On that date, a meeting of Eurozone finance ministers, the Eurogroup, will decide whether or not to release a further €8.1bn tranche of aid to Greece, explains Ta Nea.

The Athens daily also reports that at the photo shoot that followed the Berlin conference, Chancellor Angela Merkel invited Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras to pose alongside her, which the newspaper interprets as a “symbolic gesture of political support.”
