The Duchess of Cambridge gave birth to an 8lb 6oz baby boy at 4.24pm on July 22.

The birth has intensified speculation over the new royal’s name, with George becoming the bookmakers' favourite, closely followed by James and Alexander. No name has yet been decided for the the third-in-line heir to the throne, who is the Prince William and Kate’s first child and will be known by the official title, the Prince of Cambridge.

In an editorial, The Daily Telegraph proclaims that the country is “readier now to declare itself in favour of the monarchy than a generation ago” adding that republican arguments have been shown to be “threadbare and theoretical, whereas the benefits of the monarchy have been tried and tested.”
