At least 77 people were killed and nearly 120 injured after a high-speed Alvia train derailed as it approached the station at Santiago de Compostela in northern Spain on July 24.
Investigators reported the accident on the train line linking Madrid to Ferrol in Galicia was caused by excessive speed, says Spanish daily ABC.
The derailment, which occurred on the eve the feast of Saint James the Apostle [Santiago in Spanish], is the "worst rail catastrophe in recent decades in Spain," notes ABC.
