“Change the maximum number of people before next Wednesday’s confidence vote. It appears that this is the idea for ministers in Jiří Rusnok’s [provisional] government”, complains Lidové noviny.

On August 1, the Minister for Culture dismissed the director of the National Theatre in Prague, Jan Burian, who had only recently been appointed by the previous administration — a move that prompted a large number of actors and executives at the institution to resign. The prime minister overturned the decision on August 2, in an effort to calm the situation.

In the light of its drive to appoint allies to key positions to administration departemtns as well as the public companies and institutions, the opposition has dubbed the Rusnok government an “invading commando unit”, an epithet that has now been taken up by the media in the Czech Republic.
