‘Stavridis and the German push’

On August 18, Greek Finance Minister Giannis Stournaras dismissed the head of Greece’s privatisation agency, Stelios Stavridis, for travelling on a private jet belonging to a businessman who purchased 33 per cent of the country’s publicly owned bookmaker OPAP.
Reporting on an “accident” that facilitated the “plundering” of Greece’s assets, the daily Eleftherotypia argues that Berlin, which has been pressuring Athens to accelerate the pace of the programme to privatise public companies and infrastructure, should be held to blame for the scandal.
