‘Washington, London and Paris prepare response’

“A fast-track procedure has been launched though no one yet knows what ‘punishment’ it will deliver to Bashar al-Assad,” annonces Le Figaro in the wake of the meeting in Amman, Jordan, of military chiefs of staff from the West and Middle East to examine the repercussions of the conflict in Syria.

The daily explains that “a political green light is expected” and cites a government source in Paris to the effect that ”a decision will be taken rapidly” —

The Europeans are “in the loop,” notably the Italians. The Germans have remained discreet on the issue, but they have nonetheless made it known that they would approve of “action” by the international community if the use of chemical weapons is confirmed.
