Croatia issued a European arrest warrant against Zsolt Hernádi, Chairman and CEO of the Hungarian oil and gas company MOL on October 1. Hernádi is suspected of paying bribes to former Croatian prime minister Ivo Sanader, who has already been sentenced to jail for his involvement in the affair, explains Népszabadság.

On September 27, a Croatian court with a brief to investigate corruption cases ordered the arrest of Hernádi, in the wake of two unsuccessful requests to Hungarian authorities to question him in Hungary.

Hungarian authorities rejected the requests, citing reasons of security and the protection of the national interest. In January 2012, a court in Hungary dismissed the case against the energy company chief.
