During his visit in Malta on October 21, Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras agreed with his Maltese counterpart Joseph Muscat that immigration and asylum should top the agenda of the upcoming European Council meeting on October 24 and 25.

“Immigration tends to dominate political discourse in both countries”, notes The Malta Independent. According to the daily,

both prime ministers observed that immigration was set to receive greater attention within the EU next year, since the Presidency of the Council of the European Union will be shared by two Mediterranean countries: Greece itself in the first half of the year, and Italy in the second half.
