At the October 24 opening of the European Council, which will be partially devoted to debating immigration, Dagens Nyheter writes that the 28 heads of state and government have still to adopt a clear position on EU policy on refugees.

The Swedish daily remarks that member states have very different positions.

Statistics show that Germany, France, the United Kingdom and Sweden grant asylum to 10,000 people per year. By way of comparison, many other member states take in only 10. The figures also show that Italy, Greece and Malta do not measure up to the asylum policy which they have nonetheless accused other member states of neglecting.
