In the wake of the student occupation of part the University of Sofia, which has been held as part of an anti-government protest since October 25, several other institutions across the country have joined the campaign, announces Sega. They include the universities of Veliko Tarnovo and Plovdiv, as well as the National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts, the New Bulgarian University, and the Technical University of Sofia.

The protest movement launched by a group named the "Early Bird Students," is the latest addition to a wave of anti-government demonstrations that began in the spring demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Plamen Oresharski’s government.

Several hundred teachers have voiced their support for the students, however, Bulgaria’s council of university presidents has argued that the initiative threatens to jeopardise the 2013-2014 academic year.
