Amid corruption scandals and faltering public support, PM Donald Tusk made “far-reaching” changes to his cabinet on November 20, including the appointment of former ING Bank chief economist Mateusz Szczurek as finance minister.
Meanwhile, regional development minister Elżbieta Bieńkowska has been promoted to the role of deputy PM and will head a new ministry, which combines her existing responsibilities with the department of transport.
The reshuffle comes the day after the European Parliament passed the new EU budget for 2014-2020, which allocates Poland more than 400 bn zlotys (€100bn) for cohesive and common agricultural policy funding, highlights Gazeta Wyborcza. The daily notes this is no coincidence, adding –
