US president Barack Obama begins his two-day visit in Warsaw on 3 June to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the first free elections in the former Soviet Block after WWII. In 1989, Poland and other East European countries overthrew communism putting an end to the Soviet dominance in the region and the Cold War. Today, as the daily observes, Putin’s waging war in Ukraine revives the fears of Moscow’s renewed dominance and another Cold War.
And these fears will not disappear without America’s involvement. According to Rzeczpospolita,
Obama will have a chance, here in Warsaw, to present a strategy of defense for our Western world against Russia breaking rules and returning to its murky past. [...] America has an important role to play in the region. The US president must lead the West.
