"Yes, I can visit you,” headlines a delighted Irish Independent, after US President Barack Obama declared he will visit Ireland in May this year. Ireland’s new Taoiseach Enda Kenny was at the White House on 17 March for what is the traditional St Patrick’s Day call for Irish premiers when the US president made the announcement. The visit, the Dublin daily notes, “will provide Mr Kenny's new Government with a significant economic and tourism boost”, adding that it will come “within weeks of an historic visit by Queen Elizabeth”. Said the President – “I'm expecting to go not only to all the famous sites but also to go to Moneygall where my great-great-great-great-great grandfather hails from." Given Ireland’s economic woes, the trip, according to one Irish Independent columnist, may be remembered “as a turning point for the nation, where a sense of belief the country can overcome its current travails was awakened.”
