Double whammy

Published on 20 January 2010 at 12:59

In the wake of allegations of incompetence and a conflict of interest, on 19 January, Bulgarian Rumiana Jeleva withdrew her application to become the next European Commissioner for International Cooperation, Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Response. On the same day, she also resigned from her post as Minister of Foreign affairs in the Bulgarian national government.

On the left flag: GERB, is Ms. Jeleva's political party, which is currently in power in Sofia. The right flag shows the acronym for the European People's party, the political group that includes Ms. Jevala in the European Parliament.
