La Dépêche du Midi ("The Midi Dispatch") is south-western France's biggest daily. Established in 1870 as the Dépêchede Toulouse, it was banned after the liberation in 1944, then became the Dépêche du Midi in 1947. Despite its collaborationist record, La Dépêche has historical links with the centre-left, which is still powerful in the region.
