Tens of thousands of people have been demonstrating since 22 October in Poland's main cities to protest against the latest ruling of the Constitutional Court, which effectively ended the legalisation of abortion in the country. 

The Court, which is close to the ruling ultra-conservative Law and Justice party, declared abortion unconstitutional even in the case of serious and irreversible malformations of the foetus, currently the case for the vast majority of abortions in the country. Abortion remains possible only in cases of rape, incest or serious risk to the mother's health.
