The OECD published its PISA educational standards report on December 3, which proved to make depressing reading for much of Europe.

Switzerland scooped the top spot among European countries in the assessment of maths abilities of children aged 15-16, being ranked 9th highest out of the 65 countries assessed. Germany came 16th and France finished 25th, down two places on its previous ranking.
