There is a 50 per cent chance that Ukraine will sign an association agreement with the EU at the Vilnius Eastern Partnership summit on November 28-29, reports Adevărul Moldova.

If the agreement is not signed, “it will be a major blow for the EU and a disaster for the Eastern Partnership,” argues the Chişinău daily, which wonders about the possible consequences for Moldova —

The Europeans could think that they need a nearby country, and that would be Moldova. It is a risky scenario, but one that highlights the fact that Moldova as the only country which is offering any resistance in this grouping. [...] For Moldova, the signature of an association agreement would be easier, even though it would be more difficult to deregulate trade and waive visa restrictions. If Moldova and Ukraine enter in tandem, all of this would be coherent, as they would become part of a common area. If Moldova remains on its own, it will be more difficult.
