On June 4, a substantial majority of Belgian MPs demanded that a parliamentary committee be established to investigate the technical and commercial boondoggle surrounding the Fyra high speed train. The move comes a day after Dutch railroad company (NS) announced that it is cancelling a contract with Italian firm AnsaldoBreda which supplies trainsets costing €20m a piece.
The Belgian railroad company SNCB announced, also on June 4, that it is cancelling an order for three trains and "called for a criminal investigation," says the Dutch daily Trouw. SNCB is accusing AnsaldoBreda of violating regulations during the call for tender process. The Italian firm denies the accusations.
