Il 18 luglio il ministro delle finanze tedesco Wolfgang Schäuble in visita ad Atene ha dichiarato che il suo paese è pronto a investire in Grecia tramite un fondo che dovrebbe fornire liquidità alle imprese locali.

La visita si è svolta tra rigide misure di sicurezza data l'ostilità di molti greci verso la Germania. Poche ore prima il parlamento greco aveva approvato la riforma del settore pubblico richiesta dalla troika Ue-Bce-Fmi.
