“Sweden leads war against Danish fishing pirates.” In a long investigative report, the Göteborgs-Posten accuses Danish trawlers of fishing in North Sea waters that have been declared off-limits by the EU to protect cod stocks threatened with extinction. The daily explains that since the ban was established in 2009, the Swedish coastguard has counted 70 “pirate” boats in Swedish territorial waters, 16 of which have been reported to the authorities. “We do not fish in waters that have been declared off-limits,” responded a representative of the Danish fishermen contacted by the newspaper. “We want to protect the cod just as much as anyone.”
