Zatímco se hladomor v Somálsku a dalších státech Afrického rohu zhoršuje, mezinárodnímu společenství se nedaří dát dohromady potřebnou pomoc, po níž volají OSN a nevládní organizace. Evropská komise prozatím přislíbila 116,43 milionů euro a Spojené státy 312 milionů. Z členských států EU nejvíce přislíbila Velká Británie - 45,50 milionů.
