Created in April 2014, Voxeurop acquired in September 2017 an unprecedented status for a media company: it is indeed the first European Cooperative Society (SCE) to manage a media.

“A cooperative is an autonomous association of persons united voluntarily to meet their common economic, social, and cultural needs and aspirations through a jointly-owned and democratically-controlled enterprise.”

International Co-operative Alliance

Cooperative identity is guided by seven cooperative principles. As a consequence, all decision making is based on the democratic principle “one person = one vote.” This way, paid staff and user-members are equal in their rights. These principles are:

1. Voluntary and open membership

2. Democratic control by members

3. Member economic participation

4. Autonomy and Independence

5. Education, training, and information

6. Cooperation among cooperatives

7. Community engagement

Organised into several categories (founders, beneficiaries, benefactors, civil society organisations, and both public and private financers), these members participate in the management of the business through their representatives in the Supervisory Council. This Council oversees the Directory, which runs day-to-day business, and ensures that the company’s commitments and vision are respected. Members of Voxeurop SCE meet annually as a General Assembly.

The Voxeurop SCE cooperative is truly European, and it is owned by shareholders from 16 countries: Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy, Ireland, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom.

To ensure our development, the Management Board of Voxeurop SCE may decide to issue equity securities and to propose to our reader-members or contributors to acquire shares of the company.
