“The big countries of the European Union seem to to be jumping to conclusions about the attacks in Paris”, writes El País, noting that Germany, Belgium, France, Spain and the United Kingdom are considering “flash measures” that would imply “limits on freedoms.” These would include monitoring web communications, as championed by France and the UK, or the withdrawal of the national identity cards of suspected jihadists, as wished by Germany.

[…] France and President [François] Hollande were able to maintain their republican values as they managed the security crises provoked by the carnage in Paris.
