Voxeurop Live | From incels to masculinism: a toxic subculture goes mainstream

Published on 16 February 2026

Misogynistic rhetoric; widespread hate speech against women in certain circles; calls for violence against them, and even outright murder plots. The manosphere continues to grow and to radicalise, and the problem is now one for Europe too.

The violence at issue is often presented in the media as mere isolated incidents.

But is this a new phenomenon? Where does it come from? How is it linked to the broader resurgence of anti-feminism? What of the “crisis of masculinity”? Are there links with other extremist movements?

We've discussed this and more with Canadian political scientist Francis Dupuis-Déri and Italian journalist Claudia Torrisi. A conversation in English and moderated by Catherine André and Adrian Burtin.

🤝 This webinar is part of the PULSE project, a European initiative aimed at promoting cross-border journalistic cooperation following collaborative work carried out by several media partners involved in the project on the phenomenon of incels and, more generally, on masculinists.
