Thousands of people took to the streets of Westminster in London on Wednesday ready to catch a glimpse of the funeral procession for former prime minister Margaret Thatcher, who died on April 8.
More than 4,000 police officers have been drafted in to monitor the event, which was due to begin at 11am, amid fears that anti-Thatcher protesters may attempt to disrupt the funeral ceremony, which will conclude at St Paul’s Cathedral.
The ceremonial funeral, complete with military honours will be attended by some 2,300 dignitaries from 170 countries including Queen Elizabeth II.
