‘Calls for halt to processed meat imports from EU’

In the wake of the horse-meat scandal, the British government has come under pressure to impose a ban on meat imports from the European Union.
Vice-president of the European Parliament agriculture committee, José Bové, has suggested that the fraudulent use of horsemeat in products that are supposed to contain beef may have been caused by the enforcement of a law in Romania, which banned horses and donkeys from the country’s roads and created a glut in the horsemeat market.
