Within the framework of the European Union, Croatia will have the opportunity to preserve its independence and national singularity, but also to develop its potential, so as to become both Croatian and European. The most important aspect of today’s event is that, through its accession to the EU, Croatia has moved away from its former geopolitical neighbourhood. To join the European community before all the other states of the former Yugoslavia, with the exception of Slovenia, is both satisfying and encouraging.
