On 4 March Turkish police Zaman, one of the country's biggest selling newspapers and supporter of the opposition Gülen movement. Teargas and water cannons were used on the crowd that gathered in front of the newspaper's building after a court in Istanbul appointed trustees to take over the management of the Feza Media Group, the publisher of Zaman the Cihan news agency.
The takeover is a fresh blow to the already battered media freedom in Turkey and came three days ahead of a crucial EU-Turkey summit on the refugee crisis.
