The perpetrator, a former taxi driver, was quickly detained. During interrogation he admitted wanting to kill Jarosław Kaczyński (the PiS leader) and hating his party. “It is the tragic outcome of political conflicts,” laments the daily, arguing that, “It was meant to happen. Lies, hatred and aggression are not just games that end once the TV programme or party meeting is over. They call for continuity, they need victims.” Jarosław Kaczyński insisted the murder was provoked by “the campaign of hatred that has been waged against PiS for a long time,” while PM Donald Tusk stressed it was high time for every one in Poland to “sober up”.
