The ambassadors of the 28 NATO member countries are to gather for a meeting with the organisation’s Secretary General, Anders Fogh Rasmussen, on August 28 “to exchange information, estimates and positions between allies,” reports La Vanguardia.

The meeting comes hot on the heels of a meeting of military chiefs of staff from western and Middle Eastern countries, which was held on August 26.

In the wake of the alleged use of chemical weapons by the Syrian government on August 21, missiles strikes could soon be launched. The Spanish daily, which cites US officials interviewed by US broadcaster NBC, announces that strikes could begin “as early as Thursday August 29”. The strikes are to take place over a limited period of time, and will be launched without the authorisation of the United Nations Security Council.
