French researcher and emeritus professor Michel Camau specialises in the study of the Arab and Islamic world. In the course of his career, he has been a director of the Institute for Research and Study of the Arab and Islamic World (Aix-en-Provence) and the Institute for Research on the Modern Maghreb (Tunis and Rabat). He has published and supervised the publication of several works on Tunisia, the Maghreb and the Arab world, including Syndrome autoritaire. Politique en Tunisie de Bourguiba à Ben Ali(Authoritarian syndrome. Politics in Tunisia from Bourguiba to Ben Ali), which he co-wrote with Vincent Geisser.
