Now that Angela Merkel has a renewed mandate in Germany, French President Nicolas Sarkozy is hoping to make the Franco-German axis the driving force in the European Union. The eurosceptic position of the UK's probable future prime minister, David Cameron, and the new German coalition's decision not to implement austerity measures may help him achieve this objective.
