After three days of heavy rains, the country fell victim on June 2 to the heaviest floods since the devastating deluge in 2002.
A state of emergency has been declared in 13 of the country’s 14 regions, giving authorities the power to order evacuations and to deploy the army. The government has released 300 million crowns (€12m) for immediate aid relief.
The floods have killed at least four people with several more missing. Transport is limited in affected towns, including Prague, where most subway stations are closed. Water levels are still rising and are expected to peak in the coming days.
