Queen Elizabeth II has died on 8 September at Balmoral castle, in Scotland, at 96. She was the longest reigning monarch in the United Kingdom, and just celebrated her platinum ( 70 years) jubilee.

Operation London Bridge, the plan for the days following the Queen's death, provides for 10 days of national mourning after which the funeral will take place. Tributes from the public and many public figures are already pouring in. Her son Charles III (73) has succeeded her.
