On 19 February the European Commission presented a set of proposals to regulate the EU's approach to data, artificial intelligence and digital platforms over the next five years. The aim is to foster digital independence, and develop the EU's own tech sector.

The "digital strategy" was announced in the wake of Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg's visit to the EU institutions in Brussels, where he presented the latest measures to counter disinformation and privacy violations on his platform – though he seems to have convinced no one.
